Abstract
The development of gallbladder stones after vagotomy has been known well, and the effect of vagotomy has been proposed as a major contributing factor to the formation of gallbladder stones. In Western countries, the increased incidence of
gallbladder
stones after vagotomy has been reported, but in our country, reports were rare Authors reviewed 362 cases of stomach cancer patients who underwent operations such as gastrojejunostomy total gastrectomy, subtotal gastrectomy, in whom if gallstone
was
developed by abdominal ultrasonogram, and abdominal CT. Among 362 cases, gallstones developed by abdominal ultrasonogram, and abdominal CT. Among 362 cases, gallstones developed in 18 cases.
Cumulative incidence of stone formation during 5 years was 17.5% and especially it reached 21.6% among subtotal gastrectomy with Billroth II anastomosis and total gastrectomy in which duodenum was excluded. Stones did not occur in Billroth I
anastomosis
thus we could conclude that intestinal bypass was more important in stone formation than vagotomy, and the mechamism maybe a decrease in CCK excretion with decreased gallbladder motility and dilation of sphincter of Oddi, with this fact
cholecystectomy
may be needed in patients who undergo Billoth II anastomosis with expectation of long survival.
